Before: what you give it

The example input, as typed in. You paste text, CSS, markup or notes.

size: A5
unit: mm

After: what comes back

The first lines of a real run on that input. Nothing here is edited by hand.

A5: 148 x 210 mm = 5.827 x 8.268 in = 419.5 x 595.3 pt
Pixels: 420 x 595 at 72 ppi; 559 x 794 at 96; 1748 x 2480 at 300
Aspect ratio 1.419:1 (ISO, 1:1.414); area 310.8 cm2

Nearest standard sizes (mean relative difference):
- A5 148 x 210 mm, 0% off
- STATEMENT 139.7 x 215.9 mm, 4.2% off
- HALF LETTER 139.7 x 215.9 mm, 4.2% off
- JUNIOR LEGAL 127 x 203.2 mm, 8.7% off

ISO: A0 is 1 m2 at 1:1.414; each next size halves the long side. B is the geometric mean of A(n) and A(n-1); C is the geometric mean of A(n) and B(n). Envelopes in C sizes hold A sizes of the same number (a C5 envelope holds an A5 sheet flat).
Limits: published sizes are rounded to whole millimetres, so computed geometric means can differ by 1 mm. Trim tolerances vary by printer. Some US 'poster' sizes are trade names, not standards.

What you get

Dimensions in four units, pixels at 72, 96 and 300 ppi, aspect ratio, area, and nearest sizes

What it cannot do

Covers the named ISO, US and card sizes in its list; anything else needs custom width and height.
