Approximate an sRGB colour as CMYK, or the reverse, with total ink and a gamut caution

25/day

Before: what you give it

The example input, as typed in. You paste text, CSS, markup or notes.

#e4002b

After: what comes back

The first lines of a real run on that input. Nothing here is edited by hand.

sRGB to CMYK: #e4002b = rgb(228, 0, 43) = cmyk(0, 100, 81, 11) (total ink 192%)

- This is a vivid, near-pure screen colour. CMYK cannot reach it; expect a duller print (RGB's gamut is wider, per the library's 365 Graphic Design Sins).

APPROXIMATION, PROOF IT: naive maths with no colour management. A real press, ink set and paper will differ, often visibly for vivid colours.
Limits: no ICC profile, paper, dot gain or ink set is modelled. Rounded to whole numbers.

What you get

The converted value, total ink percentage, and a warning when the colour is outside CMYK reach

What it cannot do

Plain formula, no ICC profile or paper; it holds no Pantone data, so spot names are sent to your licensed swatch book.
